Everything you need to know about submitting anonymous tips
Simply start typing the street name or area where the incident occurred in the location field. Our system uses Google Maps to automatically identify the location and assign the correct ward. This ensures your tip is routed to the right ward councillor and community safety team for your area. Just provide as specific a location as possible. If you cannot find your specific area, choose the nearest known location and provide additional details in the description.
You are 100% anonymous. We do not collect any personal information - no names, email addresses, phone numbers, or IP addresses. Your browser generates a random anonymous ID locally on your device that we cannot trace back to you. Even if authorities request information, we have nothing to provide that could identify you.
Submit tips about non-emergency situations such as:
- Drug dealing or suspicious drug activity
- Illegal weapons possession
- Gang-related activity
- Suspicious behavior or persons
- Vandalism or property damage
- Noise complaints or disturbances
- Illegal dumping or environmental concerns
For emergencies or crimes in progress, call (021) 480 7700 immediately.
Your tip is immediately forwarded to the ward councillor and relevant community safety teams responsible for your area in Cape Town. They will review the tip and classify it based on priority. High-priority tips are escalated to law enforcement. You can track the status of your tip anonymously by visiting the "My Tips" page.
Enabling push notifications is highly recommended because it allows you to stay informed about your tip while maintaining anonymity. With notifications enabled:
- You'll receive instant updates when the status of your tip changes
- Ward councillors can send you anonymous messages if they need additional information to act on your tip
- You'll be notified of any important developments without needing to constantly check the "My Tips" page
- Your anonymity remains completely protected - notifications don't reveal your identity
This two-way communication channel helps authorities respond more effectively to your concerns while keeping you completely anonymous throughout the process.
Yes! If ward councillors need more information about your tip, they can send you anonymous messages through the system. You'll receive push notifications (if enabled) and can respond while maintaining complete anonymity. This two-way communication helps authorities act on your tip more effectively.
Visit the "My Tips" page on the same device and browser you used to submit your tip. You'll see the current status of the tip.
If you clear your browser data or switch devices, you won't be able to see your previously submitted tips, as the anonymous ID is stored locally. However, your tips are still being processed by authorities - you just won't be able to track them. This is part of the privacy protection: we can't recover your tips because we don't know who you are.

Yes! Community Watch is designed to complement and support existing neighborhood watch programs in Cape Town. Tips submitted through our platform are shared with ward councillors who coordinate with local neighborhood watch groups and Community Policing Forums (CPFs). Your anonymous tips help your neighborhood watch respond more effectively to local safety concerns.
